Cholesterol is a natural fatty alcohol that is found in almost all living organisms as part of cell membranes. When there is a violation of fat metabolism in the human body, cholesterol in the blood becomes too much and its excess is deposited on the walls of the arteries in the form of plaques. Their size gradually increases, moreover, the damaged vessel narrows somewhat in diameter. When the lumen of an artery closes by about three quarters, a violation of the blood supply to an organ becomes clinically noticeable, because their functioning is disrupted. Most often, those organs that most need oxygen supply suffer from atherosclerotic lesions, since their activity is much more active – this is the brain, myocardium, kidneys, lower extremities.
Triglycerides are fats, or rather their transport form. They travel through the blood vessels in the circulatory system together with cholesterol. High triglyceride levels coincide with an increase in the amount of cholesterol in the blood and a decrease in the amount of high-density lipoproteins. It should be noted that the measurement of three indicators (total cholesterol, HDL, triglycerides) is carried out with ONE test strip, on which three drops of blood must be applied! At the same time, low-density lipoproteins (LDL), as in the laboratory, are calculated using a special formula.
It is necessary to pay attention to the shelf life of the test strips and remember that after opening the package, the strips are stored for NO MORE than 3 months! Failure to comply with these deadlines may violate the accuracy of the measurements.
All types of test strips for the Element Multi analyzer must be stored at a temperature of 2 - 30 ° C, avoid freezing and direct sunlight on them.
